Save East Wilton Manors

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

For those of you who do not already know, I spoke with Commissioner Scott Newton last night, and he was told by city staff that the G Resort has withdrawn their rezoning application for the church site! Also, Patrick Cann, the Parks and Recreation Director was told that the Planning and Zoning Board doesn’t need Hagen Park for their January meeting. I received a confirmation email from the City Manager that the application has, indeed, been withdrawn. We need to be magnanimous in our victory, and wish them well in another location as long as they don’t try and destroy someone else’s neighborhood.

I think that all three city neighborhood associations need to get together and demand the city remove the PUD zoning classification from the City Code. It was done so they could approve Wilton Station, which as we all know is such smashing success. The PUD is a dangerous code that gives developers the potential opportunity to have carte blanche with their projects. We can always get a petition, as permitted by the City Charter, and force them to do it, or have an expensive special election. It would only require about 325 names.

We will still have our Save East Wilton Manors meeting on December 30th as we will have some unfinished business to complete. We need to discuss our funds, and the corporation. I am going to have our planner, Linda Strutt finish the report so we can distribute it at the meeting. People who gave us money, need to see what we got for our $1,400. When she gives me the final report I will write her the check.

I want to thank all of you for all the hard work, dedication and support that you have shown for the past five months. I am very fortunate to have so many great neighbors and now friends. Actually, this has been a blessing in disguise. It has allowed us to mobilize our neighborhood and come together. I think many of our neighbors have appreciated that we could get together for a common cause.
